IndiCare Intelligence

Built specifically for residential children’s homes

Better thinking, more respectful records and more time for children.

IndiCare Intelligence is building specialist technology to help adults in residential children’s homes reflect, write, evidence and communicate more clearly.

It is not designed to replace professional judgement. It is designed to protect it — while helping the child remain visible within every record and decision.

Reflect before recording

What might the child have been communicating?

Adult reflection Draft — not yet reviewed

The child appeared unsettled following family contact and initially found it difficult to explain what they needed. The adult remained nearby, reduced demands and offered time before revisiting the conversation.

ORB reflection prompt

Consider whether the record distinguishes clearly between what was observed, what the child said and the adult’s interpretation.

The problem we are solving

Important records are often written at the hardest possible time.

Adults are expected to be factual, reflective, therapeutic, compliant and child-centred — often after a demanding shift, an incident or a moment carrying real emotional weight.

01

After an incident

When emotions may still be high, but the record must remain balanced, factual and respectful.

02

Before handover

When the next adult needs to understand what happened without inheriting blame, labels or assumptions.

03

During management review

When leaders need to identify learning, patterns, proportionality and what must change next.

V

Help make information more accessible through visual, child-friendly and easy-read formats.

Technology with clear boundaries

ORB should strengthen good adults, not try to replace them.

The safest and most useful technology in residential care is technology that knows where its role ends.

Professional judgement remains human

ORB can support thinking and drafting. It cannot make safeguarding, care, legal or management decisions on behalf of adults.

The child remains visible

Every workflow should encourage curiosity, dignity and a fuller understanding of the child beyond one difficult moment.

Review is part of the product

Outputs are drafts requiring adult consideration, correction and approval — not finished records to accept without thought.

Why I am building IndiCare

“I do not feel it is my right to build IndiCare Intelligence. I feel it is my responsibility.”

Tom Kelly Founder, Registered Manager and care-experienced adult

I understand both sides of the record

The words adults leave behind can follow a child for life.

I am building IndiCare Intelligence because I know what it feels like to have your childhood written about by adults.

I also know, as a Registered Manager, how difficult it can be to find the right words after a demanding shift, an incident or a moment carrying real meaning.

Therapeutic recording does not mean softening what happened or avoiding accountability. It means being factual, curious, respectful and careful not to reduce a child to their most difficult moment.

Built from lived experience Informed by knowing what records can eventually mean to the person whose childhood they describe.
Grounded in frontline reality Built around the real pressures faced by residential adults, managers and providers.
Safety designed into behaviour Human review and clear boundaries should shape how the system works, not sit only in small-print disclaimers.

The words we leave behind matter

The child should never disappear behind the record.

The purpose is not more technology. It is clearer thinking, stronger reflection and better records — so adults can remain focused on the relationships and care that matter most.

ORB supports professional practice and human decision-making. It does not replace safeguarding procedures, statutory responsibilities, provider policies, management oversight, emergency action or professional judgement.
